"..We walk through a gate on a field and it feels as though we are walking into our own front door, that a homecoming is present."

My work aims to draw upon the themes in life that we all see momentarily, though in a second they are gone. That we see during the flight of a kite, manned by the gentle powers of the breeze or when we walk through a gate on a field and it feels as though we are walking into our own front door, that a homecoming is present. More recently I have found these moments exist in portrait and figurative work, through the eyes of family and friends or in the rested image of showgirls and entertainers after the curtains close and they are once again just themselves.

These concepts of the world have come from my interest in the Slow movement and other theories like it, which encourages us to take in those moments and experiences of the world around, asking us to not walk through life though walk amongst it - head high and aware of it's detail and the discoveries this can bring through the lessons of the natural world or through other people.

My personality is certainly reflected in my work as I am always enthusiatic to keep myself open to each single moment that we have on this world. They are all extremely precious. I guess my paintings are snap shots of moments in life that deserve to be noticed and kept as a regular reminder to all of us of how colourful and wonderful the world and all people are.

I have not studied art since I was younger, choosing to take my creative skills into the commercial world of design and marketing though I have been practising for as long as I can remember have only recently decided to share my work with others as my purpose to inform others of life's moments develops.

In the future I would like to teach art as a means of therapy, as it enable us to become closer with ourselves, those areas in the mind which we so often neglect through the structures and systems of the world, areas which bring peace, creativity, opening to the imagination and whilst we develop our art pieces we draw on the contemplation of ideas and possibilities.

I paint in acrylic on canvas. I have been working on developing paintings within just a few days. I find the quicker the painting the more spontaneity and real human feeling is within my work, though aiming to be representational all the while. I also believe, being a lover of art myself that there is something to seeing the raw hand of the craftsman showing within the materials. Sometimes the painting process can go over a two-day period with very little sleep, also utilising that real, natural and subconscious creative emotion that appears within exhaustion.

I often exhibit in places that are reflective to the purpose of my work, those spaces which give room to alternate ways of thinking and the various perspectives on life. Often these are alternate bars, cafes and lounges which are perhaps considered to be philosophical, thoughtful if not quirky... those that challenge the structure of living and give way to the colour and breadth of individuals and the world.
